3) Experience student interview and evaluation sessions
- Talk with the Ocean Tides psychologist
- Shadow and observe him
- Establish secure, trusting relationships with the students whose sessions I will sit in on
The evidence provided for this annotation is a paper that I wrote about what I learned from the consultant. Also, submitted as evidence is the impressions that I was asked to write after the interview and evaluation sessions with some of the students. At the beginning of the semester, I met with the consultant and asked him to be my career mentor because, though I worked in a classroom setting, I ultimately want to become a counselor. I, then, was able to accompany him to the interviews that took place in a separate part of the building. At first, I observed the consultant's interview style and discussed it with him when the interview was over. At the next interviews that I attended, I was able to ask a few questions myself. Being a part of these interview and evaluation sessions helped me put to use some information I learned in my Introduction to Clinical Psychology class. The difference between my internship and my class was being able to apply the knowledge in a real life situation. The amount of information that I have absorbed has increased substantially moving from a classroom environment to a hands on environment. The interview procedure and helpful advice for the future that I received from my career mentor/Ocean Tides consultant will help me in my future career. Counselors always conduct interviews in order to gain information about their clients. What I learned through the completion of this objective will certainly be utilized by me in forthcoming years. |
